For sale: pre-owned Rolex Deepsea Sea-Dweller D-Blue Dial ref. 116660 a.k.a James Cameron, with full set.
With a diameter of 44mm, 48mm when you include the oversize crown, it stands some 17.7mm high.
In 2008, Rolex introduced the Deepsea, the culmination of the brand’s long relationship with the planet’s underwater pioneers and a dive watch that rewrote the rulebook on what could be achieved.
Sealed tight to a depth of 12,800ft (3,900 meters), it could accompany on a trip to visit the Titanic’s final resting place and come up smiling.
The Rolex Deepsea Sea-Dweller ref. 116660 D-Blue dial was the perfect release to commemorate James Cameron’s historic solo dive documented on National Geographic’s 'DeepSea Challenge 3D' film. For this particular solo dive, James Cameron was wearing a Rolex Deepsea during his expedition into the Mariana Trench.
This two-color gradient dial celebrates one man’s journey to the deepest place on earth at the bottom of the Mariana Trench. The dial with an semi-glossy finish captures light like no other Rolex dial out there. The Mariana Trench, stretches in an arc around the Mariana Islands in the Pacific Ocean and is the deepest part of the world’s oceans.
The modern Rolex sports watches, in particular, are renowned for their solidity—their ability to weather the harsh beatings that often come with everyday wear and the Sea-Dweller is part of this group.
They use the toughest steel on cases and bracelets, their bezels are forged from practically unbreakable ceramic and they have movements with an inherent strength, not only from their physical size, but also from components made from revolutionary materials that resist shocks and laugh off magnetism.
